There are hard corps Linux users on their forum though that you could ask. Sorry, I still haven't gotten around to converting one of my machines to LinuxCNC, so I have not tested the EMC post. Tool changes, spindle control, etc all work like they should. I still have not gotten around to testing the EMC one, but the Mach one serves my Mach needs without modification. It has a number of standard post processors, and its fairly easy to modify a post if needed. There are a few things using the ALT key that conflict with the standard Linux useage, but none that are not able to be dealt with.

It was a little bit of a pain to get the support libraries and install them on the Linux box, but I attribute that mostly to the fact that I am a novice Linux user.

It also has the most proactively helpful user group on their support forums of any forum I have ever seen.Ĭurrently I have CamBam installed on a Windows box and a Linux Box side by side. It doesn't do REST, HSM, or TRACHOIDAL, but it does generate accurate tool paths from 2D geometry, and pretty good ones (depending on your set resolution) from 3D geometry.

(I use ViaCad on a Windows machine for 3D). It will work with 3D geometry (STL or 3DS), but it deosn't have any real 3D CAD capability.

Fixed -> uses the coordinates in the 3 text boxes at the bottom right to define the center of rotation.Ĭaution: As with all rotation functions, if you turn around X or Y, arcs and polylines containing arcs must first be transformed to contain only line segments (Polylines/Remove arcs) it is not necessary if rotated around Z.While not in the same realm as some of the more expensive software mentioned CamBam now has a Linux port that runs Linux native, (not under an emulator). Objects -> Each object in the selection rotates around its own center. Selection -> rotation around the center of the selection if several objects selected. Origin -> rotation around the origin of the drawing (the cross of the axes) The Copy option can also be used with the rotation mode. (but of course you can always enter a value directly in Step)Īs for displacements, we can also use the 3 text boxes at the top right to directly enter an angle (positive rotation = CCW) The buttons 1 ° to 180 ° allow a fast choice of the rotation step. Scale and Align buttons provide direct access to CamBam's standard scale and alignment tools

If the Copy checkbox is checked, the selected objects will be copied first and then moved If the Absolute box is checked, the entered value will represent an absolute position in the CamBam universe and not a displacement relative to the current position. On the right side, you can directly enter a positive or negative numeric value depending on the desired direction of movement.

On the left side, the selected objects can be moved with one click on one of the 6 axis buttons, the displacement will be made of the value of the step entered in the Step box This plugin can be accessed via the Edit/Transform/Numericam Move in the main menu, as well as the context menu of the drawing window and the Ctrl + Shift + M shortcut V1.2.0.62 - (Cambam V1.0 Win & Linux) - fix a bug with Windows 10įor use on Linux you must install the visual basic package with the following command: sudo apt-get install libmono-microsoft-visualbasic10.0-ci This plugin for CamBam is intended to move/rotate drawing objects with numerical entries or step by step.
